01 Boys Undefeated in College Search Kickoff

The 2001 Boy’s Rush traveled to Muscatine, IA this past weekend to compete in the Muscatine College Search Kickoff.

College Search Kickoff (CSK) is an invitational showcase for youth soccer players who want to play on the college level and are getting ready to enter their junior or senior year in high school in the fall 2018. 96 youth teams (48 boys and 48 girls) from clubs and leagues are annually selected to compete before up to 175 college coaches from around the nation. The Colleges and Universities represented at CSK are from all academic and athletic levels including NCCA Division I, II and III as well as NAIA and NJCAA.

Beyond the games, Muscatine is noted for it's pristine grass playing surfaces as some of the best in the Midwest. Technical Director, Ben John, and Staff Coach, Coby Carlson, were thrilled to bring the boys to Muscatine to play. On the purpose of the trip, Carlson adds, "this showcase tournament is an excellent way to cap off a great Spring club season for the High School aged boys (2001 birth year) and to prepare them for another year of High School soccer as a Junior or Senior this Fall."

Not only did they enjoy the playing surface, but the boys enjoyed some victories as well. "The 01 Boys team showed extremely well in this tournament. Their defense was solid without letting in a single goal, and their offense attack was effective and creative. We scored on corner kicks, free kick set plays, headers and volleys off of crosses, and great strikes off of tremendous individual effort. It was quite impressive."

They won all 3 of their games, and ended the weekend with 14 goals for and 0 against. But beyond the scoreboard, Carlson noted the team's ability to come together, stating, "we were most impressed by how coachable this group was each game. They responded well to our pre-match tactics and half-time adjustments. It showed some real maturity."

This maturity and composure will definitely help prepare the team for what's next in their preparations for college and beyond.
